About Washington Generator Guide

Washington Generator Guide exists to answer a simple question honestly: do you actually need a standby generator, and if so, how do you get it done right?

Most of what’s written about home generators is written by the people selling them. So it tends to reach the same conclusion — buy one, buy it now, buy the biggest one. We started from a different place. We don’t sell or install generators. We research what they really cost in Washington, how they’re sized and permitted, and what separates good installation work from bad — and then we publish it plainly, for free.

That independence is the whole point. Because we’re not trying to close a sale, we can tell you the things a salesperson won’t: when a generator isn’t worth it, when a smaller system makes more sense, and when the honest answer is “not yet.” Our guides are written to make you a more confident, harder-to-mislead homeowner — whether or not you ever ask us for anything.

Our editorial standard

Our guides are written and reviewed by a licensed Washington master electrician — someone who pulls the permits, sizes the loads, and inspects this kind of work. That’s why we can explain what’s really happening behind the wall, and why “done right” means what it does.

How we make money

We’re free to read, and we always will be — and reaching us or getting a recommendation never costs you anything. When a homeowner we’ve helped wants an introduction, we point them to a company we’d trust with our own home. If that homeowner hires them and the job is completed, the installer pays us a referral fee. You never do. We’re paid only when the work is done and done right — never for the introduction itself, and never for selling you a generator.
